Other heritage sites en route include the famous Wat Arun – a 200-year-old structure of Khmer design that’s also known as the Temple of Dawn – and the Royal Barge Museum, which houses the exquisite long boats that carry HM the King and other dignitaries only on very auspicious royal celebrations.

The Montienthip is a luxuriously refitted teakwood rice barge of the same type used centuries ago to ferry cargoes of rice, timber and silk goods along the Chao Phraya River. Thai, Chinese and European merchants have covered these same stretches of water for hundreds of years, since Ayutthaya became the capital of Siam in the 14th century. This is a trip to the heart of the nation, recalling the historical trade routes that made Thailand the vibrant nation it is today.

With seating available for only 28 guests, an intimate atmosphere is assured, as you combine the splendours of ancient Thailand with five-star luxury.
